What a fun Saturday it was! It was like July 4th and New Year’s Day came all at once because there were plenty of fireworks!
In the morning, the Division A Speech Contest was held at Westside Neighborhood School in Culver City. Representing Professional Women Toastmasters and Area A1, Hellena Jones-Elbling participated in the Evaluation Speech Contest, while Ann Hastings competed in the International Speech Contest.
With Erin Gruwell and Tiffony Jacobs from Freedom Writers joining us, we were undeniably the most enthusiastic cheerleaders in the crowd.

As expected of the Area Speech Contest, all of the contestants did a fantastic job. So…who will advance to the District Speech Contest? We will…well, I mean, Annie and Hellena will! It was a clean sweep as they won their respective contests (use your imagination and insert fireworks sights and sounds here)!

Let’s again show our support for the fabulous Annie and Hellena by filling all of the seats at the District Conference on May 31, 2014. This time, they’re not going to just bring their “A games”; they will bring A++ games!

PWTers with Freedom Writers
While the “victory fever” was still hot, Erin, Tiffony, and the YIPPPEEs drove down to Long Beach for the Speechcraft session. Our inaugural meeting was on January 18, 2014, and we enjoyed our last session on May 3, 2014. Considering their busy lives, preparing a speech every other week could not have been an easy thing to do for the Freedom Writers members. Their dedication was beyond impressive. They didn’t just give speeches, they gave amazing speeches that touched to our hearts.
The four months went by surprisingly fast. Although I know that this is not the end of our road together, thinking of not going to Long Beach on Saturday mornings anymore makes me feel a bit sentimental.
Freedom Writers and YIPPPEEs, thank you for such a wonderful experience that I will always cherish!
